Not every KitchenAid mixer fits

KitchenAid excludes KSM3316 and KSM3317 tilt-head mixers from KSMICM compatibility. Its US product page also excludes K5SS, KSM50, KSM500 and KSM450 bowl-lift models. The owner's manual lists additional bowl-lift exceptions, so use the complete model number and the manual—not a ‘fits all’ marketplace headline.

01

Why ‘universal attachment hub’ is the wrong test

KitchenAid's Attachment Fit Guarantee distinguishes power-hub accessories from the ice cream maker, which does not use that hub. A pasta roller fitting your mixer therefore does not establish ice cream bowl compatibility. Start with the attachment's own record rather than transferring a fit claim from an unrelated tool.

02

Read the two official lists together

The product page gives a shorter exclusion list than page 2 of manual W11421743 Rev B. The table above separates them so the extra exceptions are not lost. An omission from marketing copy is not a positive compatibility statement. If your label contains one of these identifiers plus additional letters, do not decide that the suffix cancels the exclusion: send the full label to KitchenAid for clarification.

03

Confirm the attachment generation and what is included

This guide concerns KSMICM, not an unidentified used ice cream attachment. Its manual identifies a freeze bowl, dasher and drive assembly. When comparing an offer, ask for its exact model and all included components. A photograph of a white bowl or a seller's generic KitchenAid title cannot identify the complete assembly. We have not established interchangeability with older attachment generations or aftermarket drive pieces.

04

A buying checklist you can send to a seller

Record the mixer model, the attachment model, the selected listing variant and the included components in one note. Ask: ‘Is this the complete KSMICM set, and what official document supports use with my full mixer model?’ If the answer is only a quart capacity or ‘fits all,’ keep checking. The Amazon link below is a search, not an endorsement of every result; unrelated accessories and third-party alternatives may appear.

05

Compatibility is only the first check

The manual requires a frozen bowl and provides separate assembly instructions for tilt-head and bowl-lift mixers. Switch off and unplug before assembly. Read the complete applicable instructions before use; a compatibility table is not an operating procedure. If a supposedly matching set will not engage correctly, stop and ask KitchenAid rather than forcing it or modifying the attachment. Consider whether the required freezer preparation fits your routine before purchasing.

06

Evidence and scope

Official records were checked October 6, 2026. This is US-focused documentary research, not a hands-on review or physical fit test. The diagram is an original summary of the documented exclusions, not a picture of a real product. We do not claim that a particular marketplace offer is genuine, in stock or proven to fit; nor do we certify older assemblies, modified mixers or products sold under different regional model codes.
